Post-production is currently underway.
Director Rubaiyat Hossain has finally revealed the cast of The Difficult Bride, a project she has nurtured for more than two decades.
The filmmaker spent years travelling to international festivals with the screenplay, gradually securing the global support required to bring the story to life.
Her long-awaited announcement confirms that Azmeri Haque Badhan, Reekita Nondine Shimu and Sunerah Binte Kamal will lead the film.
They will be joined by newcomer Zaineen Karim Chowdhury, a Smith College graduate stepping into her first major screen role after previously working behind the camera.
Rubaiyat shared the news through an exclusive reveal that signalled a significant milestone for a project shaped by tremendous patience.
The film centres on a young woman envisioning a perfect fairytale wedding while privately struggling with a troubling and concealed illness.
As remedies at home begin to fail and fear slowly heightens, she starts to imagine a mysterious woman with long flowing hair during a routine beauty parlour visit.
The narrative blends realism with a psychological undertone, allowing Rubaiyat to examine desire, anxiety and the cultural expectations surrounding modern womanhood.
Speaking about the performances, Rubaiyat expressed deep affection for her team and cited the commitment shown by every cast member.
She said that every actor had given their all and that she felt grateful for their trust, generosity and unwavering dedication.
The director explained that she first conceived the story in 2006, initially imagining it as a short film before recognising it deserved a larger form.
She described finally completing the shoot for The Difficult Bride as a near-miraculous moment after carrying the idea for twenty-one years.
Portuguese filmmaker Leonor Teles served as cinematographer, bringing a distinct visual sensibility shaped by her experience in a range of international productions.
Several overseas crew members contributed across different departments.
The film will be presented in the Work in Progress platform at the Les Arcs Film Festival, which begins on December 13, 2025, in France.
This selection positions the project before an international industry audience at a crucial stage of its development.
Post-production is currently underway, and the film is scheduled to be completed by March 2026 before heading to major global festivals.
Industry observers expect the project to generate significant attention because of its cast, its thematic depth and Rubaiyat Hossain’s reputation for bold storytelling.
For now, the team continues the meticulous work required to shape the film into its final form, hoping to honour the long creative journey behind it.
