"Instead of candles on my cake, my sister had made these small pictures"
Ranveer Singh has revealed that his sister once imagined him as a Bollywood star years before he made his acting debut.
The actor recalled receiving an unusual gift for his 23rd birthday, when his sister created edited film posters featuring his face instead of Shah Rukh Khan’s.
The posters were based on two popular Yash Raj Films titles, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Dhoom.
Ranveer recently revisited the story during an appearance on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, explaining how his sister was inspired by the idea of positive thinking.
He recalled: “For my 23rd birthday, instead of candles on my cake, my sister had made these small pictures.”
She had reportedly taken posters featuring Shah Rukh Khan and replaced his face with Ranveer’s, imagining her brother in the leading roles.
Ranveer said his sister had been influenced by The Secret, a book centred around positive thinking and visualisation.
He kept the edited images and pinned them up in his room, years before he had secured his first acting role.
Ranveer continued: “I took those pictures off the cake, and I pinned them up in my room and low and behold it came true.”
He also credited his sister for believing in his potential before he had entered the Hindi film industry.
Ranveer’s eventual Bollywood debut came in 2010 with Band Baaja Baaraat, which was produced by Yash Raj Films.
The film saw him star opposite Anushka Sharma and established him as one of the prominent newcomers in Hindi cinema.
His career has since included films such as Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, Gully Boy and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The actor has also continued his association with major Hindi film productions, with his recent work including the Dhurandhar franchise.
He is now preparing for Pralay, which stars Kalyani Priyadarshan opposite him.
The story about his sister’s birthday gift has resurfaced as Ranveer continues to reflect on his journey from aspiring actor to one of Bollywood’s recognisable leading men.
His personal life has also recently entered a new chapter.
Ranveer and his wife, actress Deepika Padukone, welcomed their second daughter on September 19, 2026.
The couple announced the arrival of their baby girl through a joint social media post, revealing her birth date alongside their names.
Their first daughter, Dua, was born in September 2024.
Ranveer’s story about the posters has since offered another glimpse into the encouragement he received from his family before his Bollywood career became a reality.
