"suspected to have been ferrying large quantities of heroin"
A Punjabi constable has been dismissed a day after she was arrested for carrying 17.71 grams of heroin in the Bathinda district of Punjab.
Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill confirmed the dismissal of Constable Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Chakk Fateh Singh Wala.
She was originally posted in Mansa but had been attached to Police Lines in Bathinda.
Gill said: “The action has been taken as per the instructions by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regarding the ongoing war on drugs.
“We will also be inquiring into all properties which the woman constable may have acquired through proceeds of crime and will take action as per law.”
Amandeep Kaur was arrested amid the state government’s anti-drug drive ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’.
Acting on a tip-off, police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force intercepted her Mahindra Thar SUV near the Badal flyover in Bathinda on April 2, 2025.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-1) Harbans Singh said police recovered 17.71 grams of heroin from her possession and impounded the vehicle.
Authorities had been monitoring Amandeep due to her lavish lifestyle. She frequently posted social media videos featuring her SUV and had 30,000 Instagram followers.
Sources said she attempted to use her connections with a senior IPS officer when stopped.
A senior officer said: “Recently this constable was suspected to have been ferrying large quantities of heroin from Fazilka to Bathinda and was intercepted at a road naka by police personnel.
“She did not allow them to inspect her car and managed to get away by claiming that she was a policewoman.”
Based on these developments, police had no choice but to dismiss her.
DSP Harbans Singh said police had received complaints about personnel involved in drug trafficking:
“Among these, one constable, operating a black Thar and leading a lavish lifestyle, stood out.
“Based on confirmed intelligence, we arrested her.”
A case has been registered at Canal police station.
Authorities have also launched a comprehensive investigation into Amandeep Kaur’s assets.
Sources said she owned luxury items, including an Audi, two Innova cars, a Bullet motorcycle, and a house worth Rs 2 crore (£180,000).
Meanwhile, a woman named Gurmeet Kaur claimed on Facebook Live that her husband, Balwinder Singh, had been involved in heroin smuggling with the constable.
She alleged: “On March 4, the constable and my husband Balwinder Singh Sonu left in a car from Fazilka at 7 pm carrying 1.3 kilograms of chitta.
“The police were informed about this.
“When their car was stopped, she threatened the police party and didn’t allow them to search the car.”
She further alleged that Amandeep had used her influence to frame her in a false case. She also claimed Amandeep’s husband had been jailed for rape after their 2015 marriage.
In February 2025, Punjab Police dismissed 52 personnel over allegations of corruption, drug involvement, and dereliction of duty.
Officials say another list of officers facing corruption charges is being prepared, with about three dozen dismissals expected soon.
