A Pakistani policeman has been arrested for murdering a lady constable, allegedly because she refused his marriage proposal.

Lahore police apprehended Constable Farooq, following an investigation into the murder of Lady Constable Soman.

Farooq was arrested at his residence as authorities sought to understand the details surrounding the case.

Reports indicated that Farooq had been friends with Soman since they both joined the Lahore Police Service in 2021.

According to reports, Farooq admitted to having romantic feelings for Soman.

He had expressed his intention to marry her. However, Soman entered into a relationship with another man.

Despite his attempts to convince Soman’s parents, with the help of friends, his efforts were unsuccessful.

This allegedly fuelled his anger and led to the confrontation that resulted in her death.

On the day of the incident, both Farooq and Soman were stationed at the police lines and assigned to duties at Manawan Police Station.

Soman was shot in the Harbanspura area in front of horrified bystanders.

She sustained three gunshot wounds, ultimately leading to her death. After the shooting, Farooq reportedly fled the scene.

Punjab IG Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the murder and issued directives for the arrest of the fugitive policeman.

Police utilised CCTV footage to aid in the investigation.

Witnesses said the lady constable had arrived at Canal Park on a motorcycle with Farooq, where an argument escalated into violence.

Despite attempts by locals to intervene, tensions heightened when Farooq drew a firearm, initially firing warning shots into the air.

He then shot Soman, first injuring her leg and subsequently delivering fatal shots to her head.

At the time of the incident, both were dressed in civilian attire.

Cantt SP Shafiq Owais, along with a contingent of police officers, arrived at the crime scene to begin the investigation.

A police service card found in Soman’s purse confirmed her identity as a lady constable.

Soman’s body was subsequently transported to the hospital for an autopsy.

A murder complaint was lodged by Soman’s brother, naming Farooq along with two associates, Tahir and Hamza, as suspects.

The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the sequence of events leading to this tragic outcome.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran has taken notice of the situation, and further investigations are underway to uncover additional details regarding this tragic case.
