“The anthem is named 'X Dekho', representing pride"
The official anthem for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, ‘X Dekho’, has been released, ramping up excitement for the upcoming cricket season.
The song marks a milestone as it celebrates the 10th edition of the PSL.
It showcases a dynamic collaboration between some of Pakistan’s most talented artists.
The anthem features the legendary Punjabi music sensation Abrar-ul-Haq.
Alongside him is the iconic Ali Zafar as well as Natasha Baig.
The track’s energy is further fuelled by Talha Anjum, known for his powerful rap style.
The combination of the four artists from different musical backgrounds brings a fresh, vibrant sound.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer explained the vision behind ‘X Dekho’.
Naseer said: “The anthem is named ‘X Dekho’, representing pride over the achievements and hurdles overcome by the HBL PSL over the last decade.”
He also highlighted that the diversity of the artists reflected the range of talent within Pakistan.
He added: “This year, the idea was to create a song that is fresh, yet familiar and resonates across fans globally.”
However, the anthem recently sparked some controversy, particularly from the owner of the Multan Sultans, Ali Tareen.
After it was announced that Ali Zafar would perform the anthem for the 10th edition, Tareen took to social media to voice his frustration.
While he did not name Zafar directly, he criticised the choice, remarking:
“There are many amazing artists in Pakistan, but more than half of the PSL anthems have been given to the same ‘middle-aged’ singer.”
He further took issue with the PSL administration.
Naseer suggested that despite their efforts to grow the league, they continue to rely on the same familiar voices.
Zafar’s inclusion comes after he was temporarily removed from PSL anthems following harassment allegations by Meesha Shafi.
After the charges were found to be unsubstantiated, he was given another opportunity in 2024.
However, he was removed and then reselected for the 2024 again.
Now, the singer has returned once more for the 10th edition with ‘X Dekho’.
The excitement for PSL 2025 continues to build, with the tournament set to begin on April 11, 2025.
Defending champions Islamabad United will face two-time winners Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Over the course of the tournament, 34 matches will be played, with Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium hosting 13 of these matches.
This will include the two Eliminators and the grand finale.
The PSL’s 10th edition promises to be an exciting season with fierce competition and a star-studded anthem to match.
