"This one will always remain special to me."

Pori Moni has won the Best Actor (Female) in the Popular Choice category at the Blender’s Choice – The Daily Star OTT and Digital Content Awards.

The award was given for her performance in Anam Biswas’ web series Rongila Kitab, marking her debut on OTT platforms.

The Hoichoi original was adapted from Kingkor Ahsan’s book and allowed Pori Moni to portray an emotionally powerful character.

While receiving the award, she explained this recognition was very special as it connected closely to her personal journey of motherhood.

She said many awards had come her way before, but this one will always hold a different place.

Pori Moni said: “I have received many awards in my life, and perhaps I will receive more in the future, but this one will always remain special to me.

“It is different because this award came for playing the role of a mother, something I was personally going through at that time.

“It allowed me to relive the journey of my own motherhood.”

The actress invited director Anam Biswas, whom she called her mentor, on stage to thank him for trusting her.

She explained that the role reflected her own real experiences, as she was adjusting to motherhood during the project.

Pori Moni highlighted the challenges she faced after childbirth, particularly body-shaming comments about her weight from several people.

She shared that many overlook the struggles mothers face, saying only women who have given birth truly understand them.

Pori also pointed out that when she walked into the hall, people again remarked on her weight.

She expressed disappointment at such remarks, emphasising that a woman’s value should never be linked to weight or appearance.

Instead, she argued dignity comes from achievements, actions, and character, not from external factors such as body image.

The audience applauded her candid words as she concluded her speech with thanks to The Daily Star and Blender’s Choice.

Mahfuz Anam and Zahida Ispahani presented the award at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Convention Centre in Dhaka.

The evening also celebrated other winners, including Utshob, which received the Cinematic Excellence Award in the special category.

Its cast and crew, alongside Zahid Hasan and director Tanim Noor, appeared on stage to collect the recognition.

Tanim Noor said filmmaking requires teamwork and thanked audiences for supporting their movie, hinting at his next project based on Humayun Ahmed.

Actor Mosharraf Karim won Best Actor (Male) in the Popular Choice category for his role in Adhunik Bangla Hotel.

Sinpaat, directed by Touqir Islam, claimed Critics’ Best Film or Drama, praised for combining strong cultural roots with universal appeal.

In music, Mahtim Shakib and Sanzida Mahmood Nandita jointly received the Best Singer award for Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya.

Their duet ‘Megh Balika’ was celebrated for its delicate emotion, making it one of the year’s most memorable soundtracks.
