Poonam Pandey’s team claimed that the model and actress had passed away due to cervical cancer.
A statement on her Instagram profile read:
“This morning is a tough one for us.
“Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer.
“Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness.
“In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared.”
The news shocked many, with some wondering if the post was a hoax.
One asked: “How is this possible? How could someone die of cancer instantly?”
Another commented: “It’s so fishy. Something is 100% wrong here.
“How can a person who is suffering from cancer look so healthy and also die all of a sudden? If the news is true RIP.”
Her manager Nikita Sharma said:
“Poonam Pandey, the beloved actress and social media personality, has tragically passed away this morning due to cervical cancer, leaving the entertainment industry in shock and mourning.
“Her unwavering spirit amidst her health struggles was truly remarkable.”
Ms Sharma also highlighted the “critical need for increased awareness and proactive measures against preventable diseases like cervical cancer”.
Paying tribute to Poonam, one fan wrote:
“Rest in Peace, Poonam Pandey.
“She was a wonderful woman and I say this after watching one of her interviews.
“Let’s respect the sentiments of her family and not criticise her today please.”
Another said: “Can’t believe. RIP.”
With over one million Instagram followers, Poonam Pandey is known for her racy photos and videos.
Her popularity skyrocketed during the 2011 Cricket World Cup when she promised to strip if India won the tournament.
Since then, Poonam has gathered a legion of fans with her bold videos.
In 2022, Poonam had a stint in the reality show Lock Upp.
Poonam also featured in TV shows and she was last seen in the ALTBalaji series Honeymoon Suite 911.
In the series, she portrays Priya, a lesbian.
The series delves into a high-thriller plot where Poonam’s character, along with Navina Bole as Sanjana, a same-sex couple, becomes entangled in the mysteries of specific premises.
However, a day later, it was revealed that Poonam Pandey had not died.
In fact, Poonam shared a video and said her fake death was part of a campaign to raise awareness about cervical cancer.
Unsurprisingly, her stunt did not go down well among the masses, with many calling Poonam “shameless” for her “tasteless” actions.
