Guitar maestro Adnan Afaq has passed away after facing a battle with stage four stomach cancer.
The news was confirmed by Armaan Raheem of the Arts Council Pakistan (ACP) on January 29, 2024.
ACP shared the news on Instagram as they posted a photo of Adnan where he is seen holding his trusted guitar.
The caption read: “Veteran guitarist and Head of ACP Music Academy Adnan Afaq has met his Creator. May he rest in peace.
“Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with his family.”
Details of his funeral and burial were also included in the caption.
As news travelled of his death, individuals came forward to pay their respects and leave messages of condolence.
One message stated: “Truly a great loss. I did not know him, but I heard his music, so in a way, I did know him.
“Years ago I met him once and we ended up talking about music. He was so knowledgeable.
“He did not leave the country like so many of his contemporaries.
“He stayed in Pakistan and did what a true artist should do, pass on the knowledge. Rest in peace.”
Another said: “He was an honourable man and a very professional musician.”
A third added: “He was one of the best guitarists in Pakistan.”
Adnan was admitted to hospital after complications arose as he battled with cancer and sadly succumbed to his illness.
His death leaves a huge hole in the music industry but his musical legacy will continue to shine through those he has left an impact on with his teachings.
Although Adnan Afaq was known for his praiseworthy guitar skills, he was most recognised for his passion for music and everything he gave to the industry in Pakistan.
He was referred to as Adnan Vai and was a mentor for many upcoming artists who were looking to find their feet in the competitive music world.
Adnan became head of the music department at the ACP in 2018, where he put his all into helping students learn music.
In his successful career, Adnan has performed live multiple times and has won critical acclaim for his versatility and incredible talent.
He regularly shared snippets of videos on Instagram with his fans where he is seen playing the guitar passionately.
