A tragic incident unfolded in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi area when a toddler’s body was recovered from a sewage line.

The child, one-year-old Maryam, had gone missing while playing outside her home in Mohalla Qazian.

She was last seen with other children in the street.

After a frantic search, Maryam’s parents were unable to locate her.

Her grandmother, Musarat Bibi, then approached the police and registered a missing child case under the relevant law.

During the official search operation, police recovered Maryam’s body from a sewer in Dhoke Ratta.

Authorities immediately shifted her remains to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

CCTV footage from the area became a key part of the investigation. It showed a young boy picking Maryam up from the street and walking away.

Police later identified the child in the footage as 10-year-old Azan Sultan.

He lived in the same house as Maryam and was a close relative. Azan was taken into custody and produced in a local court.

The local magistrate ordered him to be shifted to the Child Protection Bureau for further legal proceedings.

During questioning, the child reportedly confessed to killing Maryam.

According to the investigating officer, Azan said: “I didn’t like her.”

He admitted to picking her up and holding her head down in sewer water. This caused the toddler’s death.

Maryam’s body was later handed over to her family for burial. Her father works for the cantonment board and was devastated by the loss.

The boy’s background is troubling. His father is reportedly a drug addict, and his mother has left the home, living with her own parents.

The case has left the public in shock. Many have questioned how a child so young could commit such a violent act.

Some believe exposure to violent videos, games, and cartoons may play a role.

Others have raised concerns about neglect and the lack of parental supervision in Pakistan.

A user said:

“One-year-old toddler? Playing outside? What is wrong with the parents?”

Another commented: “The more this era becomes digital, the more parents become neglectful of their children.”

One stated: “I strongly believe that YouTube plays a major role in negatively shaping young minds.

“After closely observing the content being promoted, it’s clear that much of it is dark and disturbing.”

As the investigation continues, authorities are under pressure to examine every angle.
