“The suspect had molested a little girl playing in a street"
A man has been arrested in Kasur after a disturbing video showing him molesting a young girl went viral online.
The footage, reportedly from Shah Inayat Colony, sparked swift action from the Kasur police after it circulated.
Authorities identified the man as the same individual seen assaulting the child in the street, and a manhunt was immediately launched.
District Police Officer Muhammad Isa Khan confirmed that the accused was apprehended within 24 hours.
During the arrest operation on Dhanpat Road, the suspect reportedly pulled a pistol in an attempt to escape.
An exchange of gunfire followed, during which the suspect sustained injuries before being overpowered and taken into custody.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Kasur District Hospital under police supervision.
According to a police statement: “The suspect had molested a little girl playing in a street in Shah Inayat Colony three days ago.”
The DPO ordered Station House Officer Asif Javed to arrest him immediately, stressing zero tolerance for crimes involving minors.
Officials also highlighted that the arrest aligns with the Punjab chief minister’s direction for strict action against crimes of this nature.
The police statement read: “According to the vision of the Punjab chief minister, sexual abuse of women and innocent children will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
The incident has reignited public memory of past child abuse tragedies in Kasur, most notably the 2018 case of six-year-old Zainab Amin.
Her rape and murder were followed by the arrest and execution of serial offender Imran Ali.
It pushed the government to implement stricter child protection measures.
In response, the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Bill, 2019 was passed by the National Assembly.
That law aims to improve coordination in cases involving missing and abused children and ensure faster recovery and prosecution efforts.
Despite these reforms, fresh incidents like the one in Shah Inayat Colony underline the persistent threats children face.
A civil society report by Sahil, titled Cruel Numbers 2024, documented 3,364 cases of child abuse across Pakistan in 2024 alone.
The data, compiled from over 80 newspapers, paints a grim picture of child safety in the country.
The report details offences ranging from abduction to sexual assault, showing that despite heightened awareness, systemic failures continue.
The latest case in Kasur is another reminder that protecting children demands not only laws but also vigilance and accountability.
