A Pakistani man identified as Yasir Altaf was arrested on Friday, August 9, 2019, for allegedly raping and blackmailing a nurse.
The government hospital nurse accused him of forcing her into having sex with him.
If she refused his demands, Altaf would threaten to upload her private photos and videos online.
Altaf, who owns a car showroom in Chandi Chowk, was also booked for allegedly extorting a total of Rs. 35,000 (£180) from the victim.
According to the woman, she was raped and blackmailed by Altaf on numerous occasions over a period of two years.
In the First Information Report (FIR), Altaf, a resident of Islamabad’s Ghauri Town, had promised to marry the nurse in 2017.
The woman believed his claims. Altaf used his false promise to force her into having sex with him.
Since that incident, the suspect has allegedly been blackmailing the young nurse by threatening to share her private photos and videos if she refused to give in to his sexual demands.
Not only has he threatened to upload them online but Altaf has also threatened to show them at the hospital she worked at.
Due to the fear of her photos being shared, the woman allegedly gave in to his pressure and had sex with him whenever he demanded it for two years.
The police also heard that Altaf extorted money from the victim on numerous occasions during that time period. It came to a total of Rs. 35,000.
The incident came to light in August 2019 when the woman met with Altaf in the hospital’s car park.
According to the FIR, she got into his car and Altaf then allegedly raped her at gunpoint.
The rape made the woman reach breaking point as she knew she needed to take action against Altaf’s constant rapes and blackmailing.
She sought help from the police and filed a complaint against the Pakistani man at the New Town Police Station on Thursday, August 8, 2019.
Altaf was arrested, however, New Town SP Ziauddin told The Express Tribune that further progress needed to be made after Altaf was produced before a court for his physical remand on August 10, 2019.
In a similar incident involving rape and blackmail, a student accused Pakistan Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Atta-ur-Rehman of raping her.
He also allegedly filmed the attack and threatened to upload the footage if she spoke about the incident or if she refused any of his sexual requests in the future.
She later filed a complaint and MPA Rehman has since gone to Dubai.
