"I was the one who first expressed my love for her"
Pakistani cricketer Hasan Ali has said that he will be getting married to Indian national Shamia Arzoo in Dubai on August 20, 2019.
His announcement has ended speculations surrounding his marriage.
The bowler announced the news during a press conference and has explained that it will be a low key ceremony.
Hasan said: “Our families wanted to keep this a low key affair, but since the marriage has come out in the media I have decided to make an official announcement to ensure there are no speculations surrounding my marriage.”
Following their marriage, Shamia will move to Hasan’s hometown of Gujranwala.
There had been rumours about marriage, however, on July 30, 2019, Hasan explained on Twitter:
“Just wanna clarify my wedding is not confirmed yet, our families have yet to meet and decide upon it.”
He added that he would make a public announcement which he did on August 2, 2019.
Shamia is based in Dubai and is a flight engineer with Emirates Airlines. She has relatives in New Delhi.
Hasan Ali had met Shamia at an event in Dubai in 2018 and their friendship grew ever since.
The cricketer said: “I spoke to my brother and sister-in-law after I met her in Dubai. I told my brother that I wanted to marry her and the family had no issue.
“I was the one who first expressed my love for her and proposed to her and then our families took over.”
Hasan revealed that Shamia does not like cricket but said her honesty is what he likes about her.
“She knows nothing about cricket and does not like it. Her first favourite cricketer is Hasan Ali.”
In relation to his wedding, Hasan said:
“Our nikah will be solemnised on 20th August while the Rukhsati will take place three months later and we plan to stay in Gujranwala after marriage.
“I will be wearing a black and red sherwani suit while she will be dressed in Indian style.”
Shamia holds an Aeronautics degree from Manav Rachna University, Haryana. She has also studied in the UK.
Hasan will be the fourth Pakistani cricketer to get married to an Indian woman, after Zaheer Abbas, Mohsin Khan and Shoaib Malik.
Malik got married to tennis player Sania Mirza in April 2010 and the couple have a son.
