Former Pakistan women’s cricket captain Sana Mir has become the first Pakistani female cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

The announcement came during a special ceremony held ahead of the World Test Championship final.

There, West Indies legend Ian Bishop introduced the 2025 inductees.

This milestone makes Sana Mir the eighth Pakistani overall and the 15th woman worldwide to receive the honour.

She joins an elite group that includes Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, and Javed Miandad from Pakistan.

The ICC Hall of Fame also includes global icons like MS Dhoni, Sarah Taylor, Hashim Amla, and Matthew Hayden.

Sana Mir’s cricketing career spanned from 2005 to 2019. She represented Pakistan in 226 international matches.

In ODIs, she claimed 151 wickets, still the highest for any Pakistani woman.

She was also the first Asian woman to feature in 100 T20 internationals and topped the ICC ODI bowling rankings in 2018.

From 2009 to 2017, she captained the national side and guided Pakistan to new heights.

Under her leadership, the team won gold at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.

She also led the squad through two ODI World Cups and five T20 World Cups.

One of her standout performances came in the 2017 World Cup.

Her 5 for 14 against Scotland was instrumental in securing Pakistan’s place in the Super Sixes.

At the ceremony, Sana expressed gratitude and emotion, saying:

“From playing street cricket in Pakistan to this moment today, it’s been an incredible journey.”

“To be inducted among the legends I once idolised is a dream come true.”

Beyond her athletic achievements, Sana Mir has become a leading voice for mental health, women’s empowerment, and body positivity in sports.

Her contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic and her open stance against body shaming have also been widely praised.

Social media lit up with tributes following the announcement.

Hareem Farooq, Zeb Bangash, Hassan Ali, Fawad Alam, and Sarfaraz Ahmed were among the public figures who congratulated her.

Fans called her a “trailblazer”, “pioneer” and “true legend.”

Pakistan Super League franchise Karachi Kings called her “a true icon of Pakistani cricket”.

One social media user summed up the sentiment by saying: “She paved the way for generations of girls to chase their dreams in cricket and beyond.”

The ICC described Sana Mir as a player who fulfilled a childhood dream and left an unmatched legacy in both sport and society.
