Mohanty was first admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar in early February 2025.

Due to complications, he was placed on ventilation. As his health deteriorated, he was moved to Delhi for advanced medical care.

Despite doctors’ best efforts, he succumbed to his illness on the night of February 27, 2025.

Born in 1958 in Baripada, Uttam Mohanty was a towering figure in Odia cinema.

His journey in the film industry began in 1977 with Abhiman, directed by Sadhu Meher.

His debut performance made an instant impact, setting the stage for a remarkable career.

Known for his charming ‘chocolate boy’ image, he quickly became a household name.

Mohanty starred in numerous successful films, earning immense love and admiration from audiences.

Some of his most notable works include Nijhum Rati Ra Sathi, Chinha Achinha, Ramayana, Tapasya, Ram Balram, and Paltak.

His versatility shone through in films like Abhilasha, Danda Balunga, Puja Phula, Jaga Hatare Pagha, Pua Mora Kala Thakur, and Rajnigandha.

Mohanty’s on-screen chemistry with actress and politician Rachana Banerjee was well-received.

However, it was his pairing with his wife Aparajita that became iconic among Odia film enthusiasts.
