No ‘Gulab Jamun’ for Aishwarya and Abhishek as Film is Axed

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai were set to come together after a decade in the film Gulab Jamun. However, reports state that the film has been shelved.

"Abhishek romancing Aishwarya would just not work with the audience."

After almost a decade since they last acted together, Abhishek and Aishwarya were set to team up once again in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulab Jamun.

They were last seen together in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan (2010).

Many fans were eager to see the power couple reunite on the big screen. But a recent report suggests that the film has been axed for the moment.

Despite this film not going ahead now, there is no suggestion of Aishwarya and Abhishek of never working again.

The film has apparently been shelved as the romance angle did not suit Aishwarya and Abhishek.

The star couple thought romancing on screen is not something the audience would want to see or appreciate.

A source said: “Aishwarya and Abhishek have decided to not do a film together where they play lovers.

“Abhishek romancing Aishwarya would just not work with the audience. It has to be a story of a relationship that goes beyond courtship.”

In addition, the Umrao Jaan (2006) co-stars felt, considering their real-life journey, audiences and fans would want to see their romance go beyond just a fling and turn into something substantial.

This was not the case with the plot of the film.

The Bollywood superstars initially chose to do Gulab Jamun after it caught their eye when looking scripts for their next film.

They chose Kashyap’s next project as they felt it was an interesting storyline for a real-life couple to star in. In an interview, Aishwarya said:

“It is a beautiful script, and we fit the narrative perfectly.”

However, after a change in opinion, it looks like the on-screen reunion of Abhishek and Aishwarya will be delayed further.

If you were eager to see Abhishek and Aishwarya together in a film you may have to wait a little longer for it to happen.

The two were known for their on-screen chemistry in the many films they starred together such as Kuch Naa Kaho (2003) and Guru (2007).

Their mesmerising performances led to an off-screen romance which resulted in their marriage in April 2007.

On the professional front, it was a good 2018 for both actors. Abhishek starred in Manmarziyaan, which received many positive reviews.

Aishwarya starred in Fanney Khan and was praised by critics and fans for her portrayal of Baby Singh.

It is unknown if Gulab Jamun has been permanently axed.

However, it comes as a shock for fans who were keen to see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan grace the big screen together.
