“You are also like… not married, you barely dated the guy."
Neha Dhupia has revealed that her 2018 wedding to Angad Bedi was prompted by her pregnancy, and came as a surprise even to close friends.
Soha Ali Khan admitted she was unaware of the couple’s relationship at the time, despite being a long-time friend of Neha’s.
Neha explained that she got married quickly:
“At that point, there was just chaos, I was pregnant and…”
Neha said that even though she couldn’t invite Soha, she was one of the first to know about her pregnancy.
She continued: “They were the first ones to get to know that we were pregnant.
“Also, because we were eating in a restaurant and I fainted on Kunal Kemmu. The next morning, we met again and that’s when I told her that I was pregnant.”
Neha and Angad had been dating for a short time when she discovered she was pregnant.
She said she found it easier to tell friends like Soha, who had recently had a baby, rather than her own parents.
Neha elaborated: “You are also like… not married, you barely dated the guy.
“This information, no matter how unorthodox or orthodox you are, it’s just easier to share it with your friends, and friends who have just had a baby as opposed to telling your parents.
“It’s a tough one to have.”
Neha Dhupia also opened up about how the timing of her pregnancy and marriage led some to question the couple’s intentions.
She added: “You are always questioned that ‘Are you together because this happened or you genuinely want to be together?’
“It worked out well. There’s no other way I would want it.”
Neha previously opened up about her parents’ reaction to her pre-marriage pregnancy.
She said: “We had a non-linear wedding. We were pregnant before we got married.
“So, when we went and broke the news to my parents, they were like okay, this is great.
“But you have 72 hours before we turn this around.
“Let’s get married. I was given 2 and a half days to then go back to Bombay and get married.”
Neha and Angad married in May 2018 and welcomed their daughter Mehr in November that year. The couple now have two children, seven-year-old Mehr and three-year-old Guriq.
