Neena Gupta says Most Indian Women think Sex is to Please Men

Neena Gupta candidly discussed sex and said in India, most women only view it as a means to please men.

The actress has long been known for challenging societal norms.

In the 1980s, she was seen as controversial. Decades later, her views remain just as provocative, highlighting the slow progress of Indian society.

Speaking to Lilly Singh, Neena pointed out that many Indian women do not view sex as a source of pleasure.

“In India, 99% or at least 95% of Indian women don’t know that sex is for their enjoyment too.

“Many still think sex is only used to please men, and have their babies.

“A very miniscule minority of women have realised that sex can be enjoyable for all parties. For majority, it is not a pleasure at all.”

Neena reflected on how Bollywood shaped her early understanding of sex and relationships.

She explained: “What did they show in our movies? If you are a woman, your basic motto was to find a man.

“In fact, for the longest time, I thought we could get pregnant if we kissed. I literally thought it was true. That was what our movies showed us.”

Neena also spoke about the influence of films on men:

“They learned that they are the boss. Even till today, this is the major takeaway from most films.”

She noted that financial independence among women has led to societal changes.

Neena told Lilly: “With women earning, there are more divorces because they are not willing to take s**t from the men.

“Earlier, they weren’t earning, and they weren’t educated, and they had to live through a life.

“Now, some women are earning more than their men, and things are changing.”

Neena has been vocal about the need to remove the taboo around sex in India, adding:

“The more we discuss sex in the open, the less we will be ogled at, because it would be normalised. I feel very sad for women and their sexual desires.”

On the work front, Neena Gupta was last seen in Dil Dosti Aur Dogs and Aachaari Baa.

She also played a key role in the Hotstar series 1,000 Babies and will next appear in the fourth season of Panchayat on Prime Video.
