“I was too proud of myself."
Neena Gupta has opened up about her decision to not marry while she was pregnant with her daughter.
Gupta got pregnant with her daughter Masaba during her relationship with Sir Vivian Richards. However, she gave birth out of wedlock.
She chose not to marry for convenience while pregnant, and raised Masaba Gupta as a single mother.
Neena Gupta revealed all in a conversation with Sonali Bendre about her new autobiography Sach Kahun Toh.
She said that, although she had offers of marriage, she chose not to settle for the sake of it.

The veteran actress said:
“I was too proud of myself. I said I will not marry because I need a name, because I will get money.
“Like about this person who is gay. That was offered to me, that ‘you will get a name and you do what you want’.
“I would never do that.”
Neena Gupta went on to say that Sir Vivian Richards was one of the reasons she chose not to marry anyone else.
According to Gupta, she felt an attachment to Richards and could not see herself with any other man.
She said:
“I was still attached to Vivian, although we met very seldom. But there was quite a connect for many years. There was a connect with Masaba also.
“We used to go for holidays together sometimes, and whatever time Masaba spent with him or I spent with him was very nice.
“There was no problem because we were away from his house. He has a wife and he has children.
“I will always cherish those memories.
“Also, I was not interested in anybody else.
“I was very happy that, okay, the circumstances are such that we can’t get together, but whatever time we spend together is nice.
“I was also very happy that Masaba can spend time together.
“Later on, she grew up. Then, you know how things happen.”
Despite choosing not to marry for convenience, Neena Gupta also revealed she almost did get married to one man.
Neena Gupta’s autobiography Sach Kahun Toh details many milestones in her life, from her time in Bollywood to her unconventional pregnancy.
Speaking with Kareena Kapoor Khan on the launch day of her book, Gupta discussed being on the verge of marrying one man.
She said that she “would have loved to get married to him”. However, he cancelled their nuptials at the “last minute”.
