"Inspector Majid assaulted my sister so severely"
Pakistani actress Ghazala Idris, known in the entertainment industry as Nargis, has reportedly been the victim of domestic violence.
According to reports, she was physically assaulted by her husband, Inspector Majid Bashir.
The incident, which took place in the Defence area of Lahore, has raised serious concerns regarding abuse within the home.
According to a police report filed by Nargis’ brother, Khurram Bhatti, the couple’s dispute stemmed from financial issues, leading to a violent confrontation.
Claiming his sister is subjected to daily abuse, Khurram said:
“Today, Inspector Majid assaulted my sister so severely that her condition has worsened.”
Police arrived at the scene after receiving the complaint but initially, the family did not pursue a formal case against Majid Bashir.
According to the police, Nargis visited the police station late at night on October 31, 2024, but did not file an FIR.
Her family initially suggested they were attempting to resolve the matter privately.
They implied that they would consider legal action only if they were unable to reach an agreement.
However, the situation took a turn when Inspector Bashir was booked following Nargis’ complaint.
Hina Pervaiz Butt, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, has since met with Nargis to offer support and ensure she receives justice.
She expressed her commitment to seeing that the perpetrator faces consequences, reinforcing that such violence is a red line for the administration.
Hina emphasised the government’s strict stance on domestic violence, declaring it a “serious criminal act” that will not be tolerated.
She said: “This is not a minor issue, and the perpetrator will definitely be punished.”
She assured Nargis that a protection officer had been assigned to her case and that she would receive all necessary legal assistance.
Hina added: “The government’s policy on cases of domestic violence is extremely strict.
“Providing justice and protection to every woman is our top priority.”
Nargis, who stepped away from acting after marrying Majid, now runs a beauty salon in Lahore.
Her situation highlights the urgent need for awareness and action against domestic abuse, as well as the importance of providing support for victims.
Her fans left supportive messages for her, advocating for stricter enforcement of laws against domestic abusers.
One said: “Such laws should be made that a man should think 110 times before raising his hand on a woman.”
Another wrote: “Such people should be given harsh public punishment.”
