"I was grossly let down by them."
A Nando’s waitress who was hit with a plate in an “unprovoked” attack by a male customer claimed she was “grossly let down” by the police.
The young woman addressed the incident on social media.
The “savage” attack took place in March 2024 at a Nando’s restaurant in Stratford, London. However, footage of the incident has only recently gone viral.
In the seven-minute video, the waitress criticised the Met Police’s response to the incident.
She said she was “really disappointed and let down with what happened at the time with the police”.
The woman also explained what happened in the restaurant moments before she was assaulted and claimed the force had re-opened the investigation “thanks to all the support and the attention it [the video] has been receiving online”.
The woman, who goes by Zahra on X, said:
“I don’t think the situation would have garnered as much attention as it has, but the support has been overwhelming.
“So with all the attention that the video has gotten and seeing everything in the news about violence against women, violence against young women, the violence against girls, I think it’s important to speak up about what actually took place.
“Before explaining [what happened], I want to say what’s more concerning than the mass behaviour was the failure of the Metropolitan Police and their conduct.
“I was grossly let down by them.
“They have reopened the investigation now. Thanks for all of the support and the attention it’s been receiving online. And for that I’m grateful.
“However, I was really disappointed and let down with what happened at the time with the police.”
Zahra revealed that the violent attack stemmed from a high chair not being allowed to be placed in that area of the restaurant.
She said that “at that point, the man became aggressive” and repeatedly swore at her.

Shocking footage on social media showed the waitress approaching a table where the man was sitting with a woman and a young child.
As she places a plate of food on the table, the man lashes out and hits her across the face with a dinner plate.
The force of the blow sends the waitress backwards, leaving her holding her face.
Meanwhile, horrified diners nearby turn around.
She then leaves the scene as her attacker gets up and walks away from the table with the woman and child, leaving a full plate of food behind.
