"Family and food have always gone hand in hand."

The BBC have revealed that Great British Bake Off (GBBO) winner Nadiya Hussain will host new cooking show The Big Family Cooking Showdown.

Alongside co-host British DJ Zoe Ball, they aim to look for the best culinary family in the UK.

TV chefs Giorgio Locatelli and Rosemary Sheldon will also appear on the series as judges. The BBC revealed the news on 2nd March 2017.

Many have suggested that the new series will possibly act as a competitor to the GBBO, which will now appear on Channel 4.

The Big Family Cooking Showdown will launch on BBC 2017 and is set for an autumn release. While the BBC first announced the cooking show back in October 2016, details have now emerged about the hosts and judges.

2017 proves to be another great year for the GBBO winner. Only recently, the BBC announced another upcoming cooking show of hers. Nadiya quickly took to Twitter to express her joy about The Big Family Cooking Show:

The Big Family Cooking Showdown shows Nadiya, Zoe and the judges visit sixteen families. They will watch them cook delicious dishes, created with family recipes. The families will go through a series of challenges. The challenges will see families going head to head either at their own kitchens or in the studio.

The first series of The Big Family Cooking Showdown contains 12 one-hour long episodes.

Nadiya said: “Family and food have always gone hand in hand and I’m looking forward to getting to know the recipes and traditions of the different families taking part.

“Having been through a food competition as an amateur cook myself, I know exactly how tough it can get and so I’ll be there for them, alongside Zoe, as the pressure really builds.”

However, it appears The Big Family Cooking Showdown could compete against Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off. Some have compared that the two series will likely have the same release date. So far, Channel 4 haven’t announced a date for the Great British Bake Off.

A source close to the show said: “It is a warm, old-fashioned family entertainment show, but has a strong competitive element just like Bake Off.

“And in the same way the Great British Bake Off was a slow-burner, so the hope is that this series goes to viewers’ hearts and becomes a hit.”

Some possible comparisons may appear between the two programmes. But DESIblitz is certain that The Big Family Cooking Showdown will be a great success.
