"Slowly, he would begin bowling drills!”
Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman is reportedly being treated for an old shoulder injury.
Sources close to the player and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have revealed that the injury has been causing discomfort for the bowler.
The left-arm pacer, who had been on a break since playing in the Champions Trophy, is currently focused on treatment.
During his time in 2016 with Sussex, Mustafizur suffered a SLAP (Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior) tear. The injury required surgery in London that same year.
Since then, it is believed that Mustafizur has never fully regained his previous form.
The recurring nature of the injury has posed challenges for the bowler’s career.
Mustafizur took a PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injection on March 11, 2025, to aid in healing and reduce pain.
The injection, commonly used for its regenerative properties, is part of a strategy to encourage the body’s natural healing process.
However, it also required him to rest, which played a part in his absence from the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
BCB’s medical team saw this period of rest as beneficial for his recovery.
Dr Debashish Chowdhury, BCB’s chief physician, explained that Mustafizur had been given two to three weeks to recover.
Two weeks have already passed since the injection.
Dr Chowdhury noted: “Slowly, he would begin bowling drills!”
He further explained that the PRP injection was not specifically related to Mustafizur’s injury.
It is a common treatment for many players to recover during the off-season.
The full extent of Mustafizur’s shoulder injury will only become clear once he returns to competitive cricket.
Currently, rest and rehabilitation are key aspects of his recovery.
Dr Chowdhury added: “One solution is rest, which he got, and along with that, there are rehabilitation exercises he would be undergoing as part of injury management.”
Mustafizur Rahman has not participated in the DPL transfer process, but it is reported that he could play in the Super League phase.
However, it all depends on his medical reports clearing him.
The bowler’s return to competitive cricket will depend on how well his shoulder responds to the treatment and whether any further issues arise.
For now, Mustafizur Rahman is focused on recovery, with the hope of returning to the field soon.
