The first ever Midlands Asian Wedding Awards (MAWA) took place on October 28, 2016, at the Vox Conference Centre at Resorts World.

Sponsored by East End Food, and organised by Monsoon Venue Group and The Asian Today, the glamorous evening was attended by the who’s who of the Asian wedding industry from across the Midlands.

Guests enjoyed a drinks reception, three-course meal and entertainment throughout the night.

Hosting the MAWA’s for its inaugural year were popular radio presenters Sunny and Shay Grewal.

They kicked off the proceedings with a warm welcome to the guests and finalists.

The Gabhru Punjab kids got out there dhols and opened the show with an explosive start with a mix of vibrant drumming and Bhangra beats.

Later they were followed by R & R Productions who performed a special dance sequence. The group also later won the award for ‘Best Wedding Entertainment’.

The MAWA’s recognised businesses and organisations from all areas of Asian wedding planning, including entertainment, catering, venue and fashion.

Winners included the likes of Mahirs Experience who won ‘Best Asian Wedding Caterer’. The caterer arguably also won the award for the biggest cheer of the night.

The stunningly picturesque Hagley Hall won ‘Best Alternative Wedding Venue’, while ‘Best Cake Designer’ went to Dipyum cakes which specialises in eggless cakes.

Of course, Asian weddings are incomplete without a beautifully sculpted bride and groom.

In the fashion and beauty categories, Sharon’s Couture won the award for ‘Best Brides Wear Collection’, while the Groom’s award was given to Ziggi Menswear.

Renowned makeup artist Arman Milind took the trophy for ‘Best Hair and Makeup Artist’, while the ‘Best Wedding Accessories Provider’ went to Aariya Diamonds.
