"We have been advised to shift the release of our movie to July 26"
Kangana Ranaut will go head to head with Hrithik Roshan at the box office as the release of her film Mental Hai Kya has been pushed back.
Her film will now release on July 26, 2019, the same day as Hrithik’s Super 30.
Super 30 was also postponed as it was supposed to release in January 2019, which would have put it against Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi, another one of Kangana’s films.
Hrithik announced that his film would release in July. The decision was made after a woman accused the film’s director Vikas Bahl of sexual assault.
The woman had been working under the now-dissolved production company Phantom Films when the alleged incident happened.
Producer Ekta Kapoor said that the revised release of Mental Hai Kya was not deliberately done to clash with Super 30.
She claimed that the decision to push the release date from June 21 to July 26 was made “after the recommendations from distributors, trade analysts and their research team”.
Balaji Motion Pictures released a statement:
“We have been advised to shift the release of our movie to July 26, purely for the business prospects.
“On knowing that there is already a movie scheduled for a release on that date, we did it all in our purview to ensure that there will be no mudslinging and it will be a dignified release.
“We stand by ensuring that to all other parties.”
Following the announcement, rumours began circulating which stated that the change in release date was intentional.
Ekta took to Twitter to tell people that it was her decision to change the release date and added that people should not blame the actors. She wrote:
“My decision my film… So all brickbats directed to me please. I’m my own person.”
Mental Kya Hai’s release date also prompted speculation that Super 30 would be pushed back even further to August 2019.
However, the rumours were firmly dismissed as the filmmakers said there would be no change.
Reliance Entertainment posted on Twitter:

Mental Hai Kya is a comedy film which explores mental health. The film stars Rajkummar Rao alongside Kangana.
Super 30 is based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar, who coaches students from economically weaker backgrounds for the entrance exam to the Indian Institute of Technology.
This is not the first time where Kangana and Hrithik clashed. They hit headlines in 2016 amid rumours they had a relationship.
While Hrithik insisted he was never in a romantic relationship with the actress, Kangana claimed there had been an affair.
The feud resulted in several legal notices against each other.
