"Dog with a bone in its mouth can't bark."
BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has fired back at veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah with a fierce response on Instagram.
The exchange was triggered by Naseeruddin Shah’s earlier remarks about Bollywood celebrities’ silence on the student protests.
Shah had addressed the silence of A-list stars by saying:
“They’ll do it when their conscience tells them to.
“There’s a saying: a dog with a bone in its mouth can’t bark.”
Kangana responded by reposting actor Piyush Mishra’s comment, which had questioned Naseeruddin’s own silence on the Jharkhand protests.
Alongside the repost, Kangana added a separate and strikingly worded caption of her own in Hindi directed at the senior actor.
She wrote: “The truth is that each and everyone of us is someone’s pet.
“I am proud that I protect and defend the same house from where I get my food.
“But Naseer saab eats from this land and defends the neighbours.”
She then turned Shah’s own dog metaphor around on him, adding:
“PS In today’s time it is a compliment to be called a dog because loyalty and cuteness are so rare.
“I’d rather be a dog than a lomdi like Naseeruddin.”
Her posts spread rapidly across social media, drawing strong reactions from fans and critics on both sides of the political divide.
Kangana Ranaut’s remarks were closely connected to her larger call for accountability over the alleged police crackdown on protesters.
The BJP MP joined fellow party members in questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s response to the Jharkhand government’s handling of the demonstrations.
Several BJP MPs accused Gandhi of being either culpable or incapable of taking meaningful action against the state government.
Kangana herself demanded clear answers from authorities regarding the reported police action against job aspirants protesting in Jharkhand.
She said: “First of all, look at what is happening in Jharkhand.
“The children are being subjected to atrocities. They have been beaten very brutally.
“Water cannons and tear gas are being used against them. We are demanding answers on this.”
Officials confirmed that several agitators and four police personnel were injured during clashes near the Jharkhand Assembly.
Police reportedly used water cannons, tear gas and lathi charges against job aspirants who were demonstrating.
Kangana’s vocal stance on the Jharkhand situation also comes in the wake of a dramatic and much-discussed shift in her own position on youth protests.
She had previously attracted considerable backlash for referring to Gen Z-led demonstrations as “generation gutter.”
However, she made a notable public reversal when she told PTI:
“Gen Z is the strength of our country and, in a way, a great asset to our nation.
“We are very happy that our young people are increasingly emerging as ambassadors of our culture and its identity.”
The turnaround drew considerable commentary from those who had previously criticised her dismissive attitude toward the movement.
