"Because, India is Indira, and Indira is India!"

Kangana Ranaut has shared her look as Indira Gandhi in the teaser of her upcoming film Emergency.

The film has been both produced and directed by Kangana while Ritesh Shah has written the screenplay.

It is based on Indira Gandhi and her time serving as the only female Prime Minister of India.

Sharing the teaser and revealing the release date, Kangana Ranaut stated:

“A dictator or a protector? Observe the worst period in our history when the president of our country declared war on the populace.

Emergency will be released in all countries on November 24th.”

The teaser begins on June 25, 1975, with protestors taking to the streets. Meanwhile, a newspaper cutout features the headline:

“State of Emergency declared.”

During Anupam Kher’s voiceover, he is behind bars with the caption:

“Opposition leader arrested.”

Playing the late JP Narayan, he says:

“This is not our death but the country’s death.”

The teaser also shows protestors being shot before Kangana’s look as Indira Gandhi is unveiled and she says:

“No one can stop me from protecting this country.

“Because, India is Indira, and Indira is India!”

Shreyas Talpade and Mahima Chaudhry also feature in Emergency, alongside Milind Soman and Bhoomika Chawla.

Fans came together to share their opinions on the new movie trailer, all expressing their eagerness for the release.

One said: “It gives goosebumps. Congratulations to the whole team and Kangana Queen. She’s nailed it.”

Another commented: “She is going to nail it. Waiting for this masterpiece.”

Praising Kangana’s look, a netizen said:

“What a transformation from Kangana to Indira. Goosebumps. Masterpiece. Going to be a blockbuster.”

One fan exclaimed: “Just give her the bloody Oscar. My God!!”

Whilst another commented:

“You are the only hope to save the Indian film industry from jokers.”

However, members of the Congress Party have expressed their annoyance with the direction and the film’s subject.

It goes without saying that the release of the movie will be anything but plain sailing and that there will be a huge amount of attention directed towards both Kangana and Emergency in the lead-up to its November 24, 2023 release date.

Speaking about the film, Kangana stated that the movie was not a biopic but more so a political drama.

She said: “It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film.

“To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand the socio-political landscape of current India.”
