"They truly respect each other."
Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan have been a hugely popular Bollywood onscreen couple for over 30 years.
In 1999, Kajol married the superstar Ajay Devgn and the couple have two kids together.
However, rumours have always been circulating that the onscreen craze for Kajol and SRK led to the latter not getting on with Ajay.
It has also been alleged that at one point, Ajay attempted to stop his wife from working with Shah Rukh.
In a recent interview, the Fanaa actress addressed these rumours.
She said: “Nothing at all – they were pretty much rumours. Genuinely, nothing really happened.
“[Ajay and Shah Rukh] weren’t like, ‘Oh buddy, let’s share a beer’.
“But today, they truly respect each other.
“There’s no awkwardness, that’s a boundary really. As people, we are individuals.
“I will like some things, he will not like some things and vice versa.
“We both decided that that’s fine.
“As long as I don’t have to sit down and whatever, I am fine, you go ahead, have friends, and do whatever you want.”
Kajol and SRK first starred together in Baazigar (1993).
They went on to appear in Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), My Name is Khan (2010), and Dilwale (2015).
Ajay and Kajol have also appeared in several films together including Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha (1998), Raju Chacha (2000), and U Me Aur Hum (2008).
SRK and Ajay are yet to work together. The pair almost starred together in the aforementioned Karan Arjun, but things did not materialise. The film ultimately starred Salman Khan with SRK.
In an appearance on Koffee With Karan in 2011, Karan Johar quizzed Ajay about the controversy.
Karan asked the actor: “There were all these reports that you stopped [Kajol] from working with Shah Rukh, and she’s only worked with Shah Rukh.
Ajay replied: “That’s ridiculous. If I had to stop her, I would have stopped her. This has been going on for nearly 15 years.
“There was no genuine problem, in any which way.”
On the work front, Kajol was last seen in Maa (2025) – the second film from the Shaitaan universe.
SRK will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s King.
Ajay Devgn is currently gearing up for Son of Sardaar 2.
It is an extension of his 2012 blockbuster and is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2025.
