"Get something original."

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s The Buckingham Murders is one of the most anticipated films of 2024.

The movie stars Kareena as the detective Jasmeet Bhamra. Jasmeet must solve the murder case of a child in Buckinghamshire, England.

Comparisons have been made between The Buckingham Murders and the TV miniseries Mare of Easttown (2021).

The crime series starred Kate Winslet as a detective named Marianne ‘Mare’ Sheehan.

Like Jasmeet, Mare must also investigate the murder of a young girl.

She also works on solving the disappearance of another child.

In The Buckingham Murders, Jasmeet is shown to have lost her child. Similarly, one of Mare’s sons has also taken his own life.

These similarities have led some viewers to believe that Kareena’s film is an Indian remake of Mare of Easttown.

A fan recently posted on X: “Mare of Easttown…God, please! Get something original.”

The user tagged Hansal Mehta – the director of the upcoming film – in the tweet.

Hansal replied to the fan and said: “Decide after you watch. Don’t jump to conclusions.”

The fan responded: “I have loved all your work including Dil Pe Mat Le.

“So, I’ve been dreading if this is Kareena’s attempt to do Kate Winslet.

“Let’s see, hopefully, I am wrong as your tweet seems to suggest.”

During the trailer launch of the film, Kareena opened up on whether her character was inspired by Kate Winslet’s role.

The Jab We Met star replied: “The script came to me a year before Mare of Easttown was released.

“Actors should draw inspiration from other actors. It is kind of a motivation to make you want to do better.

“I am a huge Kate Winslet fan and I watch her work closely.”

Kareena also praised one of the film’s producers, Ekta Kapoor.

She said: “The film is very special to all of us. Today, language does not matter.

“It is not important what language you’re making a film in. What matters is, what you’re making.”

“Watch what we have made. We have done this with our hearts.

“I want to thank my dear Ekta who had the belief and guts to always stand by me, to say, ‘Okay, we are going to do this together’.

“Whatever we have done, we have always been super successful. I am very confident again this time. It’s going to be fabulous.”

The Buckingham Murders is scheduled to be released on September 13, 2024.
