Why is Raj Kundra wearing a turban? His statements hint at Sikh values, but questions remain over his past controversies.

"It was a moment that touched my soul."

In recent months, Raj Kundra has appeared to be embracing Sikh culture by wearing a turban.

The businessman first began wearing a turban for his debut film role in Mehar and the experience had a deeper impact on him.

Raj previously said: “Wearing a turban for the first time in my debut film Mehar was not just a part of my role. It was a moment that touched my soul.

“The weight of that dastaar came with a sense of pride and responsibility.”

Since then, Raj has chosen to keep his hair covered as a mark of respect to Sikh values and principles.

On Instagram, he wrote: “Since that day, I’ve made a conscious decision to embrace the principles of Sikhi, not just on the outside, but as a way of life.

“It has grounded me, guided me, and connected me to a community I deeply respect and now feel a part of. I carry this honour with humility and love in my heart for Punjab and its people.”

Raj Kundra’s cultural transformation has been praised by fans, especially given his past controversies.

In 2021, he was arrested in connection with a pornography case and later granted bail.

He has consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that he was not directly involved in the creation of any illegal content.

Further investigations have followed.

The Enforcement Directorate has pursued money laundering inquiries linked to the same case, while separate probes have examined alleged cryptocurrency-related fraud.

He and his wife, Shilpa Shetty, have also been accused of running a fake gold scheme.

Throughout the controversies, Raj Kundra has defended himself:

“If found guilty by a court of law, I will face every consequence. Until then, I will not be judged by noise, only by justice.”

Although his transformation looks to be a genuine attempt to connect with Sikh culture, it does not change his public record.

Crucially, there is little to suggest that Raj Kundra himself is presenting this as a reinvention. His own words emphasise grounding and guidance rather than transformation.

Raj Kundra’s journey into Punjabi cinema appears to have influenced his personal outlook.

He has acknowledged those who helped shape his on-screen identity, including turban stylist Inderpreet Singh. Yet the broader narrative surrounding him remains unchanged.

His reputation continues to be defined by controversy as much as by business or entertainment ambitions. And while his turban has become a visible symbol of a new chapter, it does not erase the past.

For now, the evidence suggests that Raj Kundra’s appearance reflects cultural appreciation rather than confirmed religious change.

What remains constant is the man at the centre of it all, still navigating scrutiny, still defending his name, and still firmly in the public eye.
