India’s Next Top Model 2 in Dramatic Catwalk Show

It’s all about posture and confidence in the third episode of India’s Next Top Model Season 2!

Upon receiving their very first Lisa Mail, the girls waste no time in perfecting their catwalk at the house.

But nothing could have prepared the 10 contestants for the runway challenge that is about to make them fall and slip in all directions!

The show takes a page from America’s Next Top Model playbook and tests the girls’ balancing skills with a runway suspended over a swimming pool.

In Cycle 7 of the American version, the models have to complete a full catwalk as well as pose for their photoshoot at the end of the runway.

The task is slightly more manageable for our Desi girls, who are only required to walk to the end of the ramp. The winner will be safe from elimination in the next challenge.

Like feisty judge Anusha Dandekar says: “All you have to do is walk really.”

So the girls strap on their high heels and put on their amanté bikini, ready to impress Anusha and special guest, supermodel Sucheta Sharma Jones.

The first round is painful to watch! The models barely make it through halfway on the ramp before falling off it completely.

Luckily, they being to make progress in the second round, with three girls managing to reach the end of the wobbly runway.

Anusha declares Pranati as the winner and praises her on her poise and ability to smile gracefully all the way through her walk.

The second challenge also involves the runway, but the girls would never have guessed that they would be walking for one of Bollywood’s favourite fashion designers – the one and only Manish Malhotra!

Priya is in total disbelief, saying: “This is unreal. I hope I don’t let him down.”

Pranati is first to sashay down the runway in the extravagant and elegant bridal gowns created by the renowned designer.

One by one, they showcase the intricate garments in front of a live audience and the judging panel, looking like the most beautiful Indian brides in the world.

As Manish takes his seat as a guest judge on the panel, the real drama begins.

He reveals his favourite is the angelic Rajashree, complimenting her on her walk, posture and the way she carries the dress.

But the one girl that has truly taken his breath away is Neelam! Just see what he has to say about her:

“I love your height, your walk, great stomach, great shoulders. More than anything else, the way you’re standing tall. You were simply wonderful.”

Lead judge Lisa Haydon cannot agree more, saying: “You’re just absolutely fabulous!”

And it gets better – Manish invites Neelam to walk for one of his shows!

With a recognition like that, the 22-year-old from Pune is clearly fast-tracking her way to the top of the competition.

On the other hand, Poulomi and Ashmita have proven to be the weaker links this week.

While Poulomi fails to impress the judges with her walk or complaint about Ashmita stepping on her dress, Ashmita manages to annoy Dabboo Ratnani by talking back, before confessing: “I don’t really enjoy modelling that much.”

Anusha, displeased with her ungratefulness, angrily replies that she can leave if she does not want to be in the competition.

In fact, 58 per cent of our readers voted last week that they believe Ashmita will be eliminated in this episode, and the prediction has come true.

Priya, who is at bottom two along with Ashmita, gets a serious warning from Lisa, who tells her to ‘work hard’, before she is announced safe.
