"they said repeatedly that I should go back to my country"
An Indian woman attending a concert in Albania shared her experience of being racially abused.
Dr Pranoti Kshirsagar had been at a Jason Derulo concert in Tirana when she was confronted by a group of girls.
A visibly frustrated Dr Kshirsagar explained what happened in a video on TikTok.
She said: “So I’m at a Jason Derulo concert in Tirana in Albania.
“I was waiting in the line and this group of four girls came up and cut the line.
“And when I pointed it out, they said repeatedly that I should go back to my country and laughed about it and they called me their mother and all that jazz.”
Dr Kshirsagar ended the video by giving a sarcastic thumbs-up and saying:
“I feel very welcome Albania. Great job, thank you very much.”
The video soon circulated on X and gathered approximately 4.5 million views.
Her candid account as a tourist in Albania divided opinion.
Some supported her and highlighted Albania’s reputation for racism.
One user said: “Albania is one of the most racist countries in the world.”
Another wrote: “That’s so sad. Just ignore the mean girls and have fun.”
One person praised Dr Kshirsagar for the way she handled the situation, commenting:
“She confronted this very politely. She represented her country in a wholesome manner.”
However, some netizens said the racism was justified and even posted racist comments.
One comment read: “The fact she feels entitled to complain about the country she’s in as a jeet foreigner… these jeet women are insufferable.”
Another said: “Go back please! Help out your own communities… rather than coming and destroying ours!”
One stated:
“I agree! Go back! And take all your cousins, aunts, and uncles with you!”
Some did not believe Dr Kshirsagar’s account and referenced actor Jussie Smollett, who told police he was assaulted in a racist attack in 2019.
However, a police investigation found that he had paid two work acquaintances to stage the assault.

Dr Kshirsagar also faced criticism for supposedly suggesting Albania is a racist country based on her ordeal.
One user asked: “Who blames a whole country for 4 individual’s actions?”
Another said: “So you found one racist episode in a country of 2.7 million and now it’s an epidemic.”
The racist comments left some shocked while others wondered why the Indian woman went to Albania in the first place.
One asked: “Why would anyone go to Albania?”
Another declared: “Albania is not a place for tourism.”
