A teacher known as S Ramya, aged 23, from Tamil Nadu, was murdered in the classroom of a private school in Cuddalore district on Friday, February 22, 2019.

She was stabbed to death by a man identified as Rajasekhar. The victim knew him from her college days.

According to an initial investigation, Rajasekhar had asked to marry Miss Ramya, however, her parents rejected the proposal. They think that it could be the reason for the attack.

Rajasekhar has since gone on the run and police are searching for him.

Miss Ramya taught mathematics to class 5 students at Gayathri Matriculation school in Cuddalore district. She would arrive early as she stayed close by.

The attack took place at 8 am when she was alone in one of the classrooms on the ground floor. The schoolchildren were yet to arrive.

Rajasekhar entered the classroom and an argument broke out between the two. The suspect then attacked Miss Ramya with a knife, stabbing her in the neck and leaving a deep wound.

The attacker then fled the scene, leaving Miss Ramya lying in a pool of blood.

Shanthi, a janitor at the school, saw the teacher on the floor and alerted the school’s headteacher, Mr Rangarajan, who was on the first floor.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and police sent the body for a post-mortem at the Kurunjipadi Government Hospital in Tamil Nadu.

After inquiring about the case, they suspected that Rajasekhar is behind the attack.

A police official said: “As per inquiries so far, we have learnt that this man Rajasekhar has been in love with Ramya for some time now.

“When he approached her, she rejected his proposal. Later, he even went to her parents and asked for her hand in marriage. But they said no, too.

“Angered by this, he caught hold of her and murdered her.”

Minutes before the incident, Rajesekhar was seen by a street vendor near the school.

The witness said: “I was cleaning my pushcart when I saw a youth talking on the phone.

“The teacher, who came on a bicycle, parked it inside the premises while he watched her from across the compound.”

“I went home and returned with a bucket of water to see him leaving on a two-wheeler.”

Rajasekhar came from the same town as the victim and was a student at an arts college. Miss Ramya was a teacher but was also studying for her Masters in Computer Science.

Police are searching for the whereabouts of Rajasekhar and are also investigating his family.
