when he arrived, the girl was waiting along with Chauhan.
A 22-year-old Indian man allegedly shot dead another man at close range in Wazirpur, New Delhi, on July 3, 2019.
It was reported that the reason for the murder was because both the victim and the suspect had fallen for the same girl.
The suspect, identified as Archit Chauhan, had used the girl as bait to kill 19-year-old Ajay Kumar. The incident took place at a school in the neighbourhood.
While the victim’s family claimed that Ajay was shot dead, the girl has claimed that her other boyfriend was beaten to death with a metal rod.
The victim’s body was sent for an autopsy and police are waiting for the report to confirm the cause of death.
Police officers have stated that the victim lived with his uncle in Wazirpur. Ajay was a school dropout and was allegedly attracted to the class 11 girl, who studied at the nearby school. Chauhan also lived in the same village.
On the day of the incident, Chauhan had asked the girl to tell Ajay to meet her at the school. However, when he arrived, the girl was waiting along with Chauhan.
This resulted in an argument between the two young men over the girl.
They had a brief scuffle before Chauhan brandished a gun and shot him in the head.
Chauhan soon left the area. The girl also fled the area and went back home.
Shortly after the shooting, a passerby discovered Ajay’s body lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed the police.
A police team led by Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Kumar, ACP Shakuntala Yadav and inspector Sanjay Yadav arrived at the crime scene.
According to a senior police officer, a black cap was found at the crime scene.
Police suspected that the murder was down to a love triangle revenge plot.
The girl was arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Officers are questioning her to find out if she was forced into luring Ajay to his death or if she planned it alongside the Indian man.
An FIR was registered against Chauhan and the girl under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act and section 3 of the SC/ST Act was also registered.
Archit Chauhan briefly went on the run before he was arrested. He later confessed to the murder.
Inspector Sanjay Yadav confirmed that an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
