"She asked him to wear a condom for safe sex."
An Indian man has been arrested for the murder of a 42-year-old sex worker who was found dead at her home in west Bengaluru.
It was reported that he killed her after he refused her condition of safe sex. The woman had also refused to give back his money.
According to police, 48-year-old Mukunda was arrested on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, and later confessed to the crime.
The victim worked as a prostitute and lived with her son after separating from her husband.
On January 11, the woman met Mukunda at Majestic Bus Station at around 1 pm as he tried to catch a bus to his home village.
She offered him sex in exchange for money. Initially, she had demanded Rs. 2,500 (£27) to carry out sexual favours. The woman and Mukunda later agreed on Rs. 1,500 (£16).
Mukunda gave her Rs. 500 (£5) in advance and they took a bus to Rajajinagar before taking a cab to her home.
At the time of the incident, her son was at school.
After Mukunda gave the woman the rest of the money, she insisted on safe sex but he refused.
A police officer explained: “Mukunda said he gave the woman an advance of Rs. 500 in Majestic and paid another Rs. 1,000 (£10) on reaching her house.
“She asked him to wear a condom for safe sex. But he declined and asked her to return his money. She refused and threatened to raise an alarm if he demanded the cash or tried to have sex with her without a condom.”
Another police officer said: “He allegedly took a knife out from his bag and threatened to stab her if she didn’t return the money.
“In the heat of the moment, he stabbed her in the stomach and she began screaming for help.
“He then decided to eliminate her and slit her throat before fleeing the spot with her fake gold chain and two mobiles.”
The incident came to light at 3:45 pm when the victim’s son returned home. The boy immediately informed the police.
Subramanyanagar police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation.
They considered monetary disputes, extramarital affairs and the woman’s marriage as possible motives for her murder.
Officers identified the Indian man after reviewing CCTV and spotting him with the woman.
One officer said: “We spotted the killer with the woman in an auto after analysing footage from over 150 CCTV cameras.
“We also found her mobile was operational in Majestic a few hours before her death. We deployed plainclothed officers in Majestic, who traced Mukunda when he came to catch a bus to his village.”
The Times of India reported that Mukunda was remanded in custody following his confession.
