He then stuffed the head in a bag
Indian man Muniappan, 28, of Tamil Nadu, was arrested for beheading his wife and attempting to dump it into a canal.
His attempt was unsuccessful after locals spotted the woman’s body on his motorbike.
Muniappan had been married to Nivetha, aged 19, for eight months. They resided in Mettukaddai, 10 kilometres from Erode, Tamil Nadu.
It was heard that their marriage had been rocky as they used to have frequent arguments. The accused had suspected that his wife was having an affair.
On Monday, April 15, 2019, the couple had an argument about her suspected infidelity.
However, the row escalated when Muniappan became enraged and stabbed his wife in the neck. He later severed her head from the body.
He then stuffed the head in a bag and packed the body into a large sack.
Muniappan attached the body to his motorbike and went to ride to Perundurai canal to dump her body.
However, some of the locals spotted the victim’s legs sticking out of the bag.
They raised an alarm and gave chase. Muniappan became scared that he was going to get caught so he abandoned the bike and jumped into the canal. But, the mob caught him and informed the police.
The accused was arrested and a case of murder was registered under the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation into the woman’s murder continues and Muniappan remains in custody as he continues to be interrogated by officers.
In a similar incident, a man from Karnataka beheaded his wife after she allegedly had an affair.
Satish Gupta suspected that his wife was in an extra-marital relationship. He then saw them together which caused him to lose his temper.
After being arrested, he told police: “She cheated on me. I saw her with that guy near the plantation. I killed her.
“But that guy ran away. I couldn’t kill him though.”
Gupta later dismembered his wife’s body and put her severed head into a plastic bag. He walked into the police station, pulled the head out of the bag and showed to officers while admitting to the murder.
He also brandished the machete he had used. After he was persuaded to put the head back inside the bag, officers calmed Gupta down and took a formal statement.
Officers then formally launched the murder investigation.
After Gupta told the police where he had left the rest of his wife’s body, he was remanded in custody.
