A wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district was called off after the bride’s family took the groom hostage.

The family demanded compensation for the costs of wedding preparations.

The situation unfolded dramatically in the lead-up to the wedding, after the groom, Sohanlal Yadav, went missing days before the event.

Unable to locate him, his family filed a missing person report.

However, they were unaware that the bride’s family had already made the arrangements for the wedding.

On the night of the wedding, guests began arriving but Sohanlal was still nowhere to be found.

The bride’s father stated: “We kept calling without success. My brother-in-law is from their area. He asked me to come to the police station.

“When we reached there, we found the groom.”

They learned that the groom was safe but had been missing for days.

After police intervention, Sohanlal eventually agreed to go through with the wedding.

He arrived at the bride’s home with the wedding procession.

But by that time, the bride’s family had discovered that Sohanlal was in a relationship with another woman.

They decided to call off the wedding altogether.

Sohanlal was told that he could leave only if his family reimbursed the bride’s family for the wedding expenses.

The groom, who had hoped to marry, was now a hostage in the bride’s home.

Sitting in a decorated car, he explained that there had been no problem, just a delay.

Sohanlal denied claims of disappearing, saying he had been in Lucknow and his phone had stopped working.

He said: “I wanted to marry, but they are not ready.”

The bride’s father, Lal Bahadur Yadav, explained that the wedding had been planned for months.

However, shortly after the Tilak ceremony, Sohanlal raised multiple demands.

First, he asked for a car, which was agreed to. Later, he changed his request to cash, and again, the bride’s family complied.

However, when they pressed him about any other issues, he claimed there were none.

The family had proceeded with the wedding preparations, unaware of Sohanlal’s intentions.

When the groom’s disappearance became apparent, the bride’s family grew suspicious.

The bride’s father revealed that Sohanlal had been dishonest throughout the process.

Feeling betrayed, the bride’s family demanded compensation for the wedding expenses.

Despite efforts from the police to mediate, the bride’s family stood firm in their decision.
