An Indian groom was beaten by guests at his own wedding for demanding dowry.

The incident happened at a venue in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

It was reported that the incident happened on December 18, 2021.

Prior to the wedding ceremony, the groom and his family reportedly demanded dowry.

This angered guests and they assaulted the groom.

A video shows several guests trying to get to the groom while the dishevelled man is helped away by a woman.

However, some guests got to the man and are seen slapping him over the head.

Meanwhile, other guests are seen filming the assault.

Throughout the video, there is constant shouting.

According to reports, the groom’s father demanded Rs. 1 million (£9,900) in dowry. He threatened to send the guests home if his demand was not met.

The bride’s family had already given the in-laws Rs. 300,000 (£2,900) in cash and a diamond ring worth Rs. 100,000 (£990).

However, the groom’s family was still not satisfied.

The bride’s family tried to persuade the groom’s family to stop with the dowry demands but they refused.

This angered the bride’s family and guests. As a result, they beat the Indian groom inside the venue.

According to the bride’s family, the man had been married twice before.

The video circulated on social media and prompted a lot of reactions.

Many people were pleased, saying the man got what he deserved for demanding dowry.

Another person simply wrote: “Good.”

One social media user commented: “Good example.”

A third person said:

“They give him lots of punch and slap in dowry which he deserves.”

One person claimed that such incidents only happen in “uncivilised” countries, writing:

“Only happens in an uncivilised country like that.”

In a previous dowry-related incident, a groom walked out of his wedding after the bride’s family failed to pay the Rs. 1 Crore (£115,000) dowry.

The woman explained that the marriage was arranged by both families in April and stated that the groom’s family had started to make dowry demands since that day.

She said that they demanded a wedding in a five-star resort, gold coins for all six sons-in-law and other relatives, gold chains for the groom and his father and cash for all those who came with the baraat.

The woman said: “My parents agreed to the demands initially and promised they would do whatever they could with their savings.”

However, two days before the wedding took place, the groom and his mother demanded Rs. 1 Crore in cash and threatened to break the marriage if the demands were not met.

The woman’s family were not able to pay the dowry and on the day of the wedding, the bride’s father was taken to one side and “humiliated”.

In the complaint, the bride added:

“They humiliated my father for not meeting the demands. Soon after, Akshat walked out of the venue.

“When my relatives tried to stop him, he threatened them with dire consequences.”
