Winter means many people are looking for ways to keep warm while keeping energy bills low and a radiator tip can do that.

Sam Calver shared the hack on TikTok after discovering it thanks to the help of Martin Lewis.

In the video, he said it is something people need to know about as it has helped him save so much money.

Sam said: “I can’t believe I’ve only just found out about this central heating trick.

“All I seem to be doing is turning the heating up all the time, but I saw Martin Lewis talking about the radiator foil hack, and I had to give it a go.

“I grabbed myself some radi savers – actually really cheap and you get about five metres of it.

“You just cut it to size, slide it down the back of your radiator, and it now reflects the heat from your radiator back into the room rather than seeping through your walls.

“It means you can have your heating on less and save a lot of money over time.”

Since being shared, many seemed keen to try out the handy radiator trick.

One said: “I done the whole room – walls, roof – even the windows.

“I honestly know how the Xmas turkey feels sitting in its tin foil all day. Very warm, but very dark.”

Another wrote: “It works well. Done it since the 80s. Also, put thick aluminium foil on the ceiling.

“The room becomes even warmer as you don’t lose heat to the flat upstairs.”

Martin Lewis first spoke about the trick in 2022 on the Martin Lewis Money Show Live.

At the time, he said that if you put foil behind radiators, then it should work to reflect the heat into the rest of the room.

People can buy specialist radiator foil but tin foil is said to be much cheaper and has the same effect.

Although some experts say there isn’t much evidence to back up the theory, many content creators have praised the method’s effectiveness.

Previously, Martin Lewis explained how placing an airtight layer of cling film over a single-glazed window could work to trap air and reduce heat loss.

It’s claimed the nifty trick can also limit the amount of condensation that forms on the glass. This tends to happen when warm, moist air in the room merges with the cold glass.
