Pakistani singer Hasan Jahangir claimed that the makers of Dhurandhar paid $50,000 for his song ‘Hawa Hawa.’
This amount is approximately 45 lakh rupees, which was given to secure the usage rights of the song.
The artist shared this interesting update during an appearance on the popular television program called Shan e Sahoor.
He sat down with the host Nida Yasir to discuss his long career and the legacy of his music.
During the interview, he mentioned that the hit track was used in a film with a massive production budget.
He noted that while the movie cost 100 crore, it went on to earn over 1100 crore.
The singer was clearly referring to the blockbuster action film Dhurandhar, which was directed by the talented Aditya Dhar.
When the host asked about the payment, he replied: “Yes, makers gave me $50,000. They gave me money as well as asked my permission.”
The legendary singer expressed his appreciation for the fact that the filmmakers followed the proper legal procedures this time.
He explained the evolution of the music industry by saying: “Before, there was no copyright system. But now, whoever uses my songs asks for my permission and pays me as well.
“‘Hawa Hawa’ was released 40 years ago. I recorded it in 1986 and released in 1987.”
In Dhurandhar, the song plays during the high-energy introduction scene of the character played by Sanjay Dutt.
The actor portrays a police officer named SP Aslam who confronts a group of drug peddlers in the desert.
The stylish entry sequence features the officer taking down the criminals one by one while the catchy music plays.
This particular scene became very memorable for the audience due to the combination of retro music and intense action.
Apart from this specific track, the film Dhurandhar also includes several other classic songs within its engaging narrative structure.
This film features the soulful ‘Na Toh Karvan Ki Talaash Hai’ from the iconic movie Barsaat Ki Raat.
Another lively addition to the film was ‘Ramba Ho’ by Usha Uthup, which added a unique flavour to scenes.
The movie also utilised ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, which was taken from the classic film Caravan.
Hasan Jahangir feels that musicians are finally getting the financial compensation and professional recognition they truly deserve for their work.
The singer looks forward to more such collaborations where the integrity of the original work is maintained through permission.
