"Liam’s passing has brought them together."
Zayn Malik remains a massively popular name in British music. The singer began his musical journey on The X Factor in 2010.
He auditioned for the show’s sixth series as a solo artist.
When he did not progress beyond Bootcamp, the judges formed a new boy band named One Direction.
Along with Zayn, the group comprised Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne.
One Direction finished The X Factor in third place and became one of the most successful boy bands in history.
Zayn chose to leave the band in 2015, and the following year, the group announced an indefinite break.
The band would never reunite fully, as Liam sadly died in October 2024 at the age of 31.
Now, it has been reported that Zayn Malik may be looking to rejoin the band after over ten years.
He will allegedly be named the band’s Active Director in its company, PPM Music Limited.
The singer previously had his role in the company terminated in June 2016.
A source revealed: “This is a huge moment. While heartbreaking, Liam’s passing has brought them together.
“It’s even more sad that he was the biggest cheerleader of a reunion.
“Since Liam’s passing, the boys have been in contact.
“PPM was the original company they set up when they were on The X Factor.
“The name stands for Princess Park Manor – the private gated complex they were moved into when they were on the show.”
The members of One Direction were aged 16 to 18 when they came out of The X Factor to immense fame and popularity.
Louis Tomlinson recently addressed Zayn’s departure from the band, admitting that he was “fuming”.
While on a podcast, Louis said: “I want to know if he regrets it. He’s been incredibly successful, and he’s done really well.
“But he must miss it. He must do, because I know Zayn really well.
“Zayn has the kind of energy I do, in the way that sometimes, this whole job can just be a little fussy.
“When you’re in a band, you can share that well.
“There must be times when he misses that comfort, for sure.”
“I’ve met up with him a couple of times recently, but it’s not something we’ll often discuss, but there’ll be a time for that, I’m sure.
“I would like to have those conversations with him, but it absolutely crushed me.
“I was devastated because it felt, ‘Is this the beginning of the end of the band?’
“But also, it was like, ‘This is my best mate in the band’.
“So, I’d lost a friend and someone in the band.”
Zayn Malik is currently gearing up for a Las Vegas residency he announced for 2026.
He and Louis will also reunite for a three-part Netflix series that will chronicle their lives across the United States after Liam’s death.
