Lamba has also been charged with two counts of rape
A murder charge has been authorised against Pankaj Lamba, the husband of Harshita Brella, whose body was found dead in the boot of a car in Ilford, East London.
The couple married in August 2023 in India and relocated to the UK in April 2024.
Their relationship reportedly became abusive, with Harshita experiencing both physical and emotional abuse.
She had previously been granted a domestic violence protection order against Lamba in September 2024, but contact between them resumed shortly after.
On November 10, 2024, CCTV footage captured the couple walking near Corby’s boating lake.
Later that evening, neighbours reported hearing loud noises and disturbances from their home.
Harshita Brella’s body was found in the car boot.
Authorities believe Lamba murdered Brella that night in Corby before transporting her body to Ilford. An international manhunt was initiated as Lamba was believed to have fled to India.
Subsequently, his parents were arrested in Delhi on March 14, 2025, in connection with the case.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Northamptonshire Police have issued a murder charge against Lamba.
Lamba has also been charged with two counts of rape, sexual assault and controlling or coercive behaviour.
Samantha Shallow from the CPS said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has reviewed a file of evidence submitted by the Northamptonshire Police, and has authorised a charge of murder against 23-year-old Pankaj Lamba in relation to Harshita Brella’s death.
“Lamba, formerly of Sturton Walk, Corby, is also charged with two counts of rape, sexual assault, and controlling or coercive behaviour.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings are active and defendants have the right to a fair trial.
“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell added:
“We are committed to securing justice for Harshita and her family and continue to offer our support at this difficult time.”
“It remains an active investigation and as such, there continue to be aspects of the case that we are unable to comment on at this time.
“We would urge all parties to respect the judicial process to ensure the integrity of the proceedings.”
The charges were laid at Northamptonshire Magistrates’ Court on March 19, 2025.
