"You have gone way too soon."
Rapper Dharmesh Parmar, known by his stage name MC Tod Fod, has died at the age of 24.
He had lent his voice to the song ‘India 91’ in Ranveer Singh-Siddhant Chaturvedi-starrer Gully Boy.
The two actors and film’s director, Zoya Akhtar, have mourned his death.
Part of the Mumbai-based hip-hop collective Swadesi Movement, MC Tod Fod was among over 50 rappers who contributed to the Zoya Akhtar film.
The cause of death seems to be a result of a pre-existing heart ailment, said Azadi Records co-founder, Uday Kapur.
Uday Kapur added: “He was playing football with his Swadesi crew members at a place near Nashik when he collapsed.
“Right now, his friends and family are completely shell-shocked.”
Ranveer Singh shared a photo of the rapper on Instagram with a broken heart emoji.
Siddhant Chaturvedi, meanwhile, shared a screenshot of his conversation with the late rapper, in which they congratulate each other’s performances.
“RIP Bhai,” the Gehraiyaan actor wrote.
Zoya Akhtar wrote: “You have gone way too soon. I can only be grateful our paths crossed. Rest in peace Bantai.”
Swadesi Movement shared a performance by the Gujarati rapper on Instagram and wrote:
“It was with this night that @todfod_ performed his last ever gig at Swadesi Mela.
“You had to be there to experience it, his thrill his love for playing live music.
“You are never forgotten, you will always live through with your music.”
Equality Labs, a Dalit civil rights organisation that works for caste, gender and racial equity, shared condolences on Twitter.
“We offer love and strength to his family, members of the Swadesi Movement and everybody grieving the loss of this young artist,” the official handle wrote.
“Rest in power, Tod Fod.”
Tod Fod’s last rites were conducted at his Bombay Development Directorate chawl home in Dadar on March 22, 2022.
Gully Boy was directed by Zoya Akhtar and was inspired by the lives of street rappers Divine and Naezy.
Ranveer played a rapper from slums who finds his feet in the world of music.
It also featured Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, and Vijay Raaz in prominent roles.
The Gully Boy soundtrack, which was released in January 2019, involves an estimated 54 contributors, including artists such as Divine, Naezy, Rishi Rich, Jasleen Royal, Ishq Bector and MC Tod Fod.
