"Let’s talk about positive people, real people"
Filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa appeared to throw shade at Diljit Dosanjh when discussing fame and changing attitudes in the entertainment industry.
Guddu gave Diljit his big break in the 2011 film The Lion of Punjab.
During an interview, he was asked about Diljit.
However, Guddu did not directly address the question. Instead, he said:
“Let’s talk about positive people, real people, nice people, good people.”
He then criticised individuals who change after gaining fame.
Guddu expanded on the issue by referencing Sunidhi Chauhan:
“I don’t understand why people change. I have met so many different kinds of people throughout my life.
“I still remember that we were shooting Bichhoo, and I saw a 14-15-year-old Sunidhi, and she was singing the song ‘Ek Vari Takle‘, and I was stunned that she sung that song for the movie.
“She touched my feet, and I hugged her, but people forget all this later on.
“I even called her a few days back, but neither did she pick up nor did she reply.
“When you are starting out, you will touch the person’s feet, hug them, call them godfather, even god, and they will talk a big game, but later on, everyone changes.”
Asked about the decline of filmmakers from his era, Guddu Dhanoa said:
“I don’t think people are trying hard enough, but I am still trying.
“I have a web series planned with Anupam Kher and Dimple Kapadia, and I am also working towards Deewana 2.”
He expressed confidence that filmmakers who adapt to changing trends can still find success in the industry.
Guddu Dhanoa also highlighted actors he described as warm and positive.
These included Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri, Priyanka Chopra, Anupam Kher, Vidya Balan, and Akshay Kumar.
He emphasised that maintaining humility and professionalism is key to longevity in the entertainment business.
Having worked with Bollywood legends, Guddu reflected on the evolution of the industry.
He noted that the rise of streaming platforms has changed how films are consumed, giving more opportunities for experimental content and fresh talent. While some traditional filmmakers have struggled to adapt, others have successfully transitioned to digital platforms.
Guddu Dhanoa last directed the 2015 Punjabi film Ramta Jogi.
Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh has risen as both a singer and actor. He won acclaim for portraying Amar Singh Chamkila in Imtiaz Ali’s 2024 biopic.
