Gauahar Khan’s husband Zaid Darbar is facing criticism for his tasteless joke at the expense of a homeless man.
In an Instagram Story, Zaid posed on a pavement while a homeless man slept.
He captioned the picture: “No AC, no fan, no darkness, but still sleeping so peacefully because no wife?”
Zaid also tagged his wife and added: “But I am the most peaceful with you jaanu (darling) I love you jaanu…”
Netizens were outraged by Zaid’s post, with one asking:
“Is he really that stupid to put up a story like this?”
Another mentioned his wife and said: “Gauahar is always busy schooling others and her husband is like this.
“Even yesterday, madam had a problem at the polling booth. Also, what gave him the right to click a random man’s picture, let alone while he is sleeping??
“Imagine if someone had clicked him or Gauahar like that without consent?”
Others called him out for using a homeless man to make a misogynistic remark.
A user said: “Tasteless joke in so many ways. It’s obviously sexist and boomer-humour.
“Of course, it’s also making fun of someone who is poor. What a sad man to get married to.”
One comment said: “Beyond disgusting and insensitive! F*** this dude and whoever took this picture.”
A person wrote: “Oh my God. Where does one start?
“Making a misogynistic joke at the expense of someone who is clearly impoverished is his idea of humour?
“There is something called consent.”
Stating that his wife deserves respect, one person said:
“Honestly, these wife jokes aren’t funny. Especially for a wife who is the one financially supporting your lifestyle.
“He has made quite a few reels on these stupid, unfunny wife jokes. I find such jokes so disgusting.
“She works all year round while all you do is make stupid reels. She deserves more respect!”
One person put Zaid’s insensitivity down to privilege, writing:
“Some people genuinely do not relate with the world because of their bubble.
“I’m glad my parents never let me ride on the money train.
“It’s fine if you’re privileged, good for you. At least be aware of the struggles most people face every f*****g day.”
“This dude is such an idiot, even with clear misogyny in this pic, it isn’t what I hate the most.”
The controversy comes a day after Gauahar Khan complained about being unable to vote using her Aadhaar Card.
In a video, a disappointed Gauahar said:
“I have an appeal. Why do we have Aadhaar cards if we are not considered citizens enough to vote?
“Your Aadhaar card is your identity that you are an Indian citizen and you should be able to vote with that.
“People who have left the building are still on that list. I have seen it myself.
“And if I, my mom, my husband, everyone is registered on that building…. none of us are there.
“So how does one vote? We go with our Aadhar card, Id proof and they say, ‘No you cannot vote’.”
