There are also reports that the film’s title will be slightly modified

Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan’s much-awaited film Abir Gulaal is finally set to reach cinemas after months of uncertainty.

The romantic comedy, which was initially slated for release on April 22, 2025, faced an abrupt halt.

The film now has a worldwide release date of August 29 but will not release in India due to the country’s ban on Pakistani artists.

It will follow a similar release model to Sardaar Ji 3.

The Diljit Dosanjh-starrer skipped its India release due to political sensitivities surrounding Pakistani talent.

The inclusion of Hania Aamir faced intense criticism in India despite avoiding domestic cinemas.

However, Sardaar Ji 3 went on to become a massive overseas success.

It also secured the title of the highest-grossing Indian Punjabi film abroad.

Taking cues from this outcome, the makers of Abir Gulaal aim to tap into the same global market while bypassing a direct Indian release.

There are also reports that the film’s title will be slightly modified before release, changing from Abir Gulaal to Aabeer Gulaal.

The movie marks Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after nine years, making it one of the most anticipated cross-border projects in recent times.

Fawad was last seen in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016 alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, and Anushka Sharma.

Before that, he appeared in Kapoor and Sons and made his Bollywood debut opposite Sonam Kapoor in Khoobsurat.

Fans across the globe have eagerly waited for his comeback, with many expressing excitement over his pairing with Vaani Kapoor.

The film is directed by Aarti S Bagdi and produced by Vivek Agrawal. It was shot entirely outside India.

Its production budget is estimated between Rs 5 crore and Rs 10 crore, with picturesque international locations adding to the visual appeal.

While the plot details are still under wraps, it is confirmed to be a romantic comedy with a mix of vibrant storytelling and lighthearted moments.

The global release strategy suggests the makers are banking on international audiences and the star power of its lead cast.

Whether Abir Gulaal can replicate or surpass the overseas success of Sardaar Ji 3 will be seen later this month.

For now, the anticipation around Fawad Khan’s Bollywood return is building rapidly as the countdown to August 29, 2025, begins.
