“It was conscious on my part."

Esha Deol has revealed that she cut down on the number of projects she took up after 2011 because she wanted to focus on her personal life.

She made her acting debut in 2002 with Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe and it saw her win the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Since then, she has had several releases each year.

Tell Me O Kkhuda was released in 2011 but since then, Esha cut down on the number of projects she took up, having just five films in 10 years.

Esha has now admitted that it was because she was focusing on her personal life and wanted to settle down.

The actress got married to businessman Bharat Takhtani in June 2012. The couple have two daughters.

Esha told Hindustan Times: “It was conscious on my part.

“I sort of wanted to settle down with Bharat and start a family.

“I just fell in love and was enjoying that so much.

“Then I went the family way, and when your babies are very small, everything has to be given the right focus. You have to do the right things at the right time.”

Esha feels that for a woman, settling down and starting a family is “important”.

But she added that she believes in the sentiment of “once an actor, always an actor”.

She has now returned to acting and will next be seen in Rudra, which marks Ajay Devgn’s web debut.

Rudra is an adaptation of the BBC crime drama Luther and Esha exclaimed that she enjoyed the original series.

She said: “I have enjoyed Luther as a viewer, and it is a fantastic setup.

“Working again with Ajay is something I totally look forward to.”

The pair have worked together in several films, including Kaal, Yuva and Main Aisa Hi Hoon.

Esha added: “Ajay was very happy when he got to know about me coming on board, and told me he’s really glad I am back to work.”

In addition to the web series, Esha Deol starred and co-produced Ek Duaa.

She explained that venturing into production happened naturally.

Esha said: “I was offered the script to act in purely, but I was really moved with the story.

“I think being a mother and daughter, there was something that deeply touched me when I heard this script.

“I felt just acting in a film like this was not going to satisfy me.

“I wanted to do more, especially with a subject like this. I thought ‘what if I could produce it’, and that’s how it happened.”
