"Rishi won't stand up to his backbenchers"
The last Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) of 2023 went out with a bang in the adrenaline-fulled back and forth between Rishi Sunak and Labour Party leader, Keir Starmer.
The action-packed session was led with questions over homelessness, the Rwanda bill, the cost of living and the Palestine-Israel conflict.
Whilst Sunak expressed his dismay at families going cold or hungry this Christmas, he pointed out welfare measures in place for those in need.
However, social media dismantled his claims, saying that most of these resources won’t come into effect till after the festive period.
With such fiery conversations, numerous MPs were heated and the Speaker had to consistently warn those individuals to calm down.
However, Rishi Sunak also seemed to show his frustration during the event.
His anger at the accusations that his own party members don’t believe he’s fit for the role and want him to go was clear.
It was evident to those watching on that Sunak was rattled and the public double downed on this on X.
Eddie Burfi commented on X:
“Blimey, the pressure is really getting to Rishi Sunak.
“This disproportionate flash of anger seems less about Kier Starmer’s question and more about lashing out at the factions attacking him within his own party.”
Wyndham Wallace tweeted:
“‘Typical, shameless opportunism,’ Sunak yells at Starmer, spittle flecking his lips, face contorted with bitter fury, his hypocrisy stuck in his throat like a toxic furball.
“All because Starmer dared to mention record levels of that ‘lifestyle choice:’ homelessness.”
MP Preet Kaur Gill shared her thoughts, saying:
“It’s deeply saddening to hear that nearly 140,000 children will be homeless this Christmas – more than ever before.
“But, instead of taking action, weak Rishi won’t stand up to his backbenchers and ban no-fault evictions or build more homes.”
Shadow Minister, Bill Esterson also added:
“Rishi Sunak’s response to a question about a homeless child was tone-deaf at best.
“He couldn’t bring himself to show any indication he cared.”
“Nasty stuff from Sneering Sunak at #PMQs.”
Lastly, Krish Kaur tweeted:
“Rishi Sunak is utterly dreadful.
“I actually think he’s more entitled, petulant and out of touch than Boris Johnson”
However, the frustration at the Prime Minister didn’t stop there. He was labelled “out of touch”, “unfit”, and “weak, on online platforms.
Keir Starmer even called him the “donkey” of the nativity.
As questions grow around Sunak’s role, there’s no denying that most of the UK public have disapproved of the British Asian politician.
Will 2024 bring a turnaround or is this the end of the line for Rishi Sunak?
