Rao would keep bottles of alcohol in the bathroom
An Indian school teacher has been suspended after a video of his abusive behaviour towards his students went viral.
K Koteswara Rao was posted at Mandal Parishad School in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district.
His suspension came on Friday, March 26, 2021.
Rao was allegedly prone to drinking in class, attending school drunk, and abusing his students.
At least one of his students has also alleged that the teacher forced him to strip as a punishment.
The video, which has since been deleted, showed Rao eating in the school’s staff room with a liquor bottle next to him.
He could also be seen and heard abusing a parent questioning his behaviour.
When confronted, Rao dared the parent to record him, as he offered to undress before her.
Also in the video, the parent encouraged the students to speak out against their teacher.
According to the students, Rao would keep bottles of alcohol in the bathroom and drink regularly.
One of the students also said that the teacher’s behaviour would turn vulgar as a result of the alcohol, and he would behave obscenely to them.
According to several parents of the school’s students, they have been upset for a while over the teacher’s behaviour.
One parent, identified as Renuka, said:
“We gathered video evidence and complained to the education officials because it is such a bad influence on children.”
A memo has been issued to K Koteswara Rao from the Mandal Revenue Officer, asking for an explanation for his actions.
Indian teachers commonly receive disciplinary action for their behaviour towards students.
In December 2020, an Indian headteacher was arrested for sexually assaulting several minor girls in Telangana.
The 40-year-old headmaster allegedly abused at least five children between the ages of six and 10 years old.
He reportedly took the children from their homes on the basis of giving them extra tutorial lessons.
Then, the teacher forced them to watch pornographic content before sexually abusing them.
According to District Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt:
“The accused has been booked and arrested for sexual assault on minor girls of the school.
“He was arrested on December 16, 2020, and will be sent to remand.”
The sexual abuse by the headmaster only came to light after one of the minor girls fell ill, and had to be taken to hospital.
