"It is most likely a heart attack."
Filmmaker Sanjay Gadhvi has passed away due to a suspected heart attack. He was 57 years old.
The sad news was confirmed by his daughter Sanjina Gadhvi.
Sharing the circumstances, Sanjina said: “He passed away at 9:30 am this morning at his residence.
“We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack.
“He wasn’t unwell, he was perfectly healthy.”
Sanjay made his directorial debut with Tere Liye (2001) but he was best known for his work in the acclaimed Dhoom franchise.
The Yash Raj Films thriller series explores two policemen – Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali Khan (Uday Chopra).
They track a criminal who usually pulls off heists and thefts.
Sanjay Gadhvi helmed the first two instalments.
Abhishek paid tribute to Sanjay on social media.
Sharing a picture of the director, Abhishek wrote:
“I took this photo of Sanjay whilst we were filming the climax of Dhoom 2 in South Africa.
“We made two films together – Dhoom and Dhoom 2.
“Sanju, when I spoke to you last week and we were reminiscing about our shoots and memories I would never have imagined even in my craziest dreams that I would have to write a post like this.
“I’m shocked beyond belief.
“You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first-ever hit!!!
“I can never ever forget that or be able express what it meant to me.
“I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother.”
Hrithik Roshan, who played the central role of Aryan ‘Mr A’ Singhania in Dhoom 2, took to X to share his condolences.
The Vikram Vedha star wrote:
“Deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Sanjay Gadhvi.
“Forever grateful for the moments we shared.
“He was instrumental in bringing out the Aryan in me. Couldn’t have done it without him.
“Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed.”

For his performance in Dhoom 2, Hrithik won the Filmfare ‘Best Actor’ award in 2007.
John Abraham, who starred in Dhoom as Kabir Sharma, also expressed condolence on X.
John shared:

Veteran composer Pritam, who created the music for the Dhoom series, wrote:
“Just can’t process this news about Sanjay.
“All the noise around me has just muffled.
“And yet the show has to go on… I have lost the mentor, the man who found me, believed in me.”
Sanjay Gadhvi’s last film as a director was Operation Parindey (2020).
