"who I spent my year with this vibe of a person"
Shahid Kapoor has divided fans after he recalled one of his past projects.
Without naming the film, Shahid said he learned something while working on it.
He explained: “You want to delve into what are the type of people you are working with.
“Not just in terms of their professional accomplishments or their creative potential but how they are as people that matter.
“It matters a lot to me now as to who I spent my year with this vibe of a person, with this energy of a person, or with this kind of personality and discipline of a person.”
Although Shahid did not name anyone, many theorised he was talking about his time working with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone on Padmaavat.
Some criticised the Bollywood couple, with one saying:
“No wonder that insecure couple doesn’t have any genuine friends in the industry.”
Another commented: “I have always felt that the way this couple is, or individually they are is a myth. The deeper you dig, the dirtier you will find it.”
However, others hit out at Shahid and brought up his past.
One said: “You mean Shahid Kapoor whose exes have nothing nice to say about him? Shahid who bodyshamed Vidya Balan?
“Shahid Kapoor who ended up with an arranged marriage cuz he felt lonely after two, three failed relationships cuz he was so controlling.”
Another said: “Really didn’t have friends in Bollywood cuz he doesn’t like to party.
“Doesn’t drink, smoke and is a strict vegetarian. He forced his exes to also be one. I remember both Kareena and Priyanka talking about it.”
There were rumours that Shahid Kapoor was unhappy on the set because some of his scenes were cut.
Shahid also revealed that he was surprised to be offered the role of Tommy in Udta Punjab.
He explained:
“I haven’t drunk to date. I have never done any substance in my life. I don’t know what it is to be high.”
Shahid admitted he initially had doubts about the role because he was concerned that his friends who drank would question his decision to take on the role when he lacked knowledge about it.
He feared embarrassment and negative consequences but he was drawn to the script and the character, and ultimately convinced himself and said:
“If I can do this, which I cannot relate to at all.
“If I can pull this off, then I think I will be fearless for the rest of my life as an actor because this is as far away from my reality as it possibly can be.
“And also, it’s a great role. I mean, if somebody else does it really well, I’ll look back and be like, ‘What a fool I was to let go of this opportunity’ because how many roles like this get written?
“Usually, it’s just these nice guys who are running and doing all this.”
